Senior Tax Associate – Public Accounting
A respected and growing public accounting firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Tax Associate to join its tax practice. This is a full-time, hybrid role that offers exposure to a broad range of clients and tax scenarios in both Federal and State & Local Tax (SALT) areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare individual, partnership, corporate, and fiduciary tax returns.
- Assist with documentation and client file maintenance procedures.
- Research and analyze federal and state tax matters to ensure compliance.
- Contribute to tax planning strategies and provide required analysis.
- Draft responses to tax notices, audits, and related matters from federal and state agencies.
- Support the tax team with ongoing client engagements and project management.
- Collaborate with other departments, including wealth management professionals, to deliver integrated client solutions.
- Stay current with changes in tax laws through continuing education.
- Review your work for accuracy and quality.
- Apply feedback for personal development and growth.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
- 2–4 years of public accounting or equivalent tax experience.
- CPA, JD, or EA preferred (or actively pursuing).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with QuickBooks and tax preparation software (e.g., UltraTax) is a plus.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Work Schedule
- Generally, 40–45 hours/week outside of the busy season.
- Heavier workloads during tax season.
Work Environment
- Hybrid schedule with in-office presence expected at least 3 days per week.
- Office is conveniently located near public transportation in northwest Chicago.
