The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Accountant/Accounting Manager who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment and is excited to take on a highly visible, hands-on role. This is not a traditional, siloed accounting position—this role requires a “Swiss Army knife” mindset, where you will wear multiple hats and contribute across functions.
You will work closely with leadership, including the CFO and executive team, gaining direct exposure to strategic initiatives while helping scale the accounting operations in preparation for public markets.
Responsibilities
- Support and help lead day-to-day accounting operations in a dynamic startup environment
- Contribute to building scalable financial processes and controls for both the existing business and upcoming spinout
- Work within SAP S/4HANA as the company completes its ERP implementation
- Collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, and accounting partners
- Assist with financial reporting readiness in advance of the upcoming S-1 filing
- Take on cross-functional responsibilities as needed in a lean team environment
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience (startup, biotech, or life sciences experience preferred)
- Experience with large ERP systems (SAP S/4HANA experience or ERP implementation exposure strongly preferred)
- Strong Excel and analytical skills
- Ability to operate independently, prioritize effectively, and adapt in a fast-changing environment
- Comfortable wearing multiple hats and taking initiative in an ambiguous, startup setting
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- CPA or CPA-track is a plus
Work Environment & Compensation
- On-site requirement: 5 days per week in the northern suburbs of IL
- Contract role with potential for permanent conversion
