Summary
The Tax Manager will focus their attention and manage enterprise-level and individual entity corporate tax functions. The Tax Manager will be an integral part of the Corporate Finance team by providing important tax information to the business and team. This role will also be responsible for all tax-related matters including filings, correspondence related to tax, and working with third parties related to tax items, and will be responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting both internally and externally.
Responsibilities
- Coordinating the annual tax filings, quarterly state filings, regulatory filings, and reporting required
- Schedule and direct meetings with third-party tax accountants, gather and maintain work papers, and ensure all tax returns are accurate and timely filed
- Assist in preparation of consolidated and consolidating financial statements monthly (currently completed quarterly). Includes balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, changes in equity, eliminating entries
- Manage tax correspondence and audit inquiries with regulatory agencies
- Coordinate all IRS and State Agency Income and Franchise Tax responses
- Assist partners with the preparation of quarterly estimates
- Lead and support the year-end tax preparation process
- Assist, Advise, and Recap tax research; explain complex tax concepts and procedures
- Implement tax planning initiatives, prepare taxable income estimates
- Manage, develop, train, and guide a team of accountants to support the business
- Collaborates with Finance CFO and Controllers on tax and accounting issues impacting the Company’s financials
- STM may be asked to assist with the month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, financial statement preparation and financial reporting, and tax consolidations
- The STM will be expected to keep schedules of the estimated tax payments, extension payments, states taxes were filed in, new entities that were created or acquired, entity ownership and provide K-1s to 30+ investors
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance is required; with a specialty in tax or JD preferred; High school diploma/GED Required
- CPA and/or 5 years of tax practice experience with public accounting firm
- 3-10 years of progressive tax experience working for a public accounting firm as well as within an accounting or finance department, working in corporate tax
- 3+ years of recent tax accounting experience operating at a high level
- Big 10 public accounting tax experience preferred
- Prior audit experience preferred
- Experience in developing or managing staff in an accounting department preferred
- Experience in working several tax busy seasons at staff, senior and manager levels
- Experience and working knowledge of corporate close processes and adherence to tight deadlines
- Must have experience preparing partnership returns, K-1s, state, local and composite returns
- Prior experience preparing the following: account roll-forwards and depreciation and Amortization schedules, corporate tax returns, all special allocation analyses leading to the return, working knowledge of corporate financial statements, summary recaps for senior management
- Must have a full understanding of financial consolidation and intercompany relationships, roll up to the individual 1040
- Proven ability to advise on Cash vs Accrual and State revenue Allocation matters
- Provided tax planning forecasts and estimated taxes
- Ability to work with multiple GL programs and tax preparation programs
- Above Average in Excel, presentation delivery
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Effective organization skills and ability to prioritize; time management skills
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure to meet various deadlines
- Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Prior experience representing clients or assisting or practicing in front of regulatory or compliance bodies
