The Senior Accountant role will be responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures in the preparation of month-end journal entries, reconciliation, and analysis to ensure the accuracy of monthly financial reporting and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Responsibilities

  • Review, prepare, and record journal entries related to balance sheet and income statement activity, utilizing and applying knowledge of Accounting to assigned tasks (e.g., Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and as well as company policies).
  • Prepare detailed and organized reconciliations for all assigned balance sheet accounts and promptly investigate and resolve reconciling items to ensure accuracy and completeness in financial reporting. Ensure assigned account reconciliations are properly supported.
  • Perform financial statement variance analysis, which includes analyzing and understanding significant changes in account balances and documenting clear and concise explanations for monthly financial reviews.
  • Utilize and apply knowledge of accounting to assigned tasks (e.g., Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and other relevant accounting regulations as well as company policies).
  • Prepare and provide requested documentation for external financial, bank, and store audits.
  • Preparation of ad hoc reports and analysis, as required.
  • Lead and assist on projects designed to improve accounting efficiency or drive higher quality deliverables. This will include identifying opportunities for process improvements through a review of processes and collaboration among the accounting function to create departmental efficiencies.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of general accounting experience: month-end close, reconciliations, variance analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Public accounting and/or corporate accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.
  • Working knowledge of corporate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and related analytics, including cost center review and variance analysis.
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Suite, including Excel. Experience in Lawson, Business Intelligence and/or Hyperion a plus.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff at all levels and cross-functions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative problem-solving and working style to drive change through influence.
  • Accounting experience in the retail industry is a plus.
