POSITION OVERVIEW
Title: Staff Accountant ($70,000 – $80,000 + Bonus)
Reports to: Corporate Controller
Location: In-Office | Chicago, IL

POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant is responsible for a broad range of general accounting functions. This role will focus on monthly close, journal entries, account reconciliations, fixed asset tracking, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and has strong technical accounting and analytical skills.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take ownership of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparation and posting of journal entries and preparation of financial statements.
  • Help support the AR and AP staff and perform AR/AP month-end reviews
  • Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and resolve reconciling items
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules, including depreciation and disposals
  • Perform financial analysis and prepare internal reports for management review
  • Support preparation of financial statements and related disclosures
  • Assist in audit preparation and respond to auditor inquiries
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate cost allocation and intercompany activity
  • Support compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
  • Assist in developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Contribute to special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 4+ years of experience in general accounting or related roles
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and accounting principles
  • Experience with fixed asset accounting and monthly close processes
  • Experience with intercompany transactions/multiple entity company structures preferred
  • Experience in construction, senior housing, or property management preferred
  • Proficiency in NetSuite (or similar ERP system) preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • CPA eligible (CPA preferred)
